My training seems to have begun for real. I managed to walk almost eight miles in three separate walks on Saturday, then six miles in one walk on Sunday. I'm panicking a little bit because what I did was about all I can manage physically right now, and it matches week 3 on the training schedule. I was supposed to be on week 6! I've had a lot of "gifted and talented student" inservices this year, and they're always talking about compacting and accelerating. I think that's what I've got to do now--compact and accelerate the training schedule!

I go to Hawaii in about four weeks. While we're there, there's a half-marathon going on. I'm debating about entering. Yeah, so 13 miles is beyond what I can do right now. Yeah, so I would come in dead last according to last year's results. It might just be the push I need to get me to start training in earnest. So last night I started working on my walking speed. I went to the workout room and did almost 30 minutes on the treadmill at 4.2 miles per hour. I was ready to collapse when I was done. I don't know. We'll see what I can get accomplished in the next four weeks. But now I have the training schedule hanging above my computer so I can't get too off-track again.
